I am writing with the following updates:

OISE Start of Winter Term
OISE Building Closure

OISE Start of Winter Term

As announced in my Community Update of November 23, 2020, the start of the winter term for OISE is not impacted by the recent University of Toronto President’s Announcement of November 20th. Most OISE graduate courses will begin the week of January 11th, 2021 as originally scheduled.

The two graduate teacher education programs, the Master of Teaching and the Master of Arts in Child Study and Education, will begin January 4th as originally scheduled. The teacher education programs are carefully monitoring decisions being made by the province and our board partners, and any changes in program scheduling will be communicated directly to teacher candidates.

OISE Building Closure

The OISE building (252 Bloor Street West) will be closed during university holiday from December 23, 2020 to January 2, 2021 inclusive. The parking garage will remain open during the break. JICS will close from Dec. 21, 2020 to Jan. 1, 2021. The UTS site (371 Bloor West) will continue to be accessible only by key for the duration of the break.

Teaching Excellence Awards

Nominations are now being accepted from our community for OISE’s Teaching Excellence Awards—an important opportunity to recognize excellence in this central area of our work. Please take the time to consider nominating a teacher who has made a difference in your academic program. The nominations submission deadline is January 29, 2021. More information regarding the awards criteria and the Guidelines for Preparing an OISE Teaching Award Nomination Package is available on the Teaching Awards website.

I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a good holiday break. These past months since March have been a challenge for many, and I hope the university closure over the holiday brings some rest to members of our community.
