York school board receives Anti-Asian Racism report from OISE-linked researchers

York Region District School Board has received a from two OISE-affiliates education researchers.

Dr. Mary Reid, an assistant professor at OISE, and Dr. Ardavan Eizadirad, assistant professor of the Faculty of Education at Wilfrid Laurier University and an OISE alumni are the report鈥榮 co-authors. They consulted the Asian staff, students, and community of York Region and have developed a series of recommendations aimed at ensuring YRDSB schools are identity-affirming learning and working spaces for Asian students and staff.

The report will help to inform the action items of the , which is currently in development.

Dr. Reid is an assistant professor of mathematics education at the 麻豆传媒集团 (OISE) at the University of Toronto. She has published research in the areas of math content knowledge of elementary pre-service teachers, math anxiety in the classroom, the gender gap in STEM, and building efficacy for math teaching. Her most recent study critically examines the gender and race gaps in math performance, specifically the intersectionality of being female and of colour.

Dr. Ardavan Eizadirad, who earned a Master's and PhD from OISE, was an instructor in the School of Early Childhood Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University and in the Master of Teaching and Bachelor of Education program at OISE before being appointed to Laurier. He is an Ontario Certified Teacher who previously worked for the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and taught in the field of Child and Youth Care at Humber and George Brown College.
