Â鶹´«Ã½¼¯ÍÅ

is Professor of Higher Education, and former dean of the Â鶹´«Ã½¼¯ÍÅ of the University of Toronto. He holds the Ontario Research Chair in Postsecondary Education Policy and Measurement and he is the Director of the Centre for the Study of Canadian and International Higher Education.  He is the author of more than 150 papers in the field of higher education. His research and teaching interests focus on higher education policy, governance and academic work. His recent books include Internationalization and the Academic Profession: Comparative Perspectives (with Alper Calikoglu and Yangson Kim, Springer, 2023), University Governance in Canada: Navigating Complexity (with Julia Eastman, Claude Trottier and Olivier Bégin-Caouette, McGill-Queen's, 2022),  Universities and the Knowledge Society: The Nexus of National Systems of Innovation and Higher Education (with Timo Aarrevaara, Martin Finkelstein, and Jisun Jung, Springer, 2021), International Education as Public Policy in Canada (with Merli Tamtik and Roopa Desai Trilokekar, McGill-Queens, 2020), Professorial Pathways: Academic Careers in a Global Perspective (with Martin Finkelstein, Johns Hopkins University Press, 2019),  Doctoral Education for the Knowledge Society (with J.C. Shin and Barbara Kehm, Springer, 2018), and Governance of Higher Education: Global Perspectives, Theories and Practices (with Ian Austin, Routledge, 2016. A chinese language edition was published in 2020).

Glen is a past president of the Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education and a former editor of the Canadian Journal of Higher Education. He received the Distinguished Research Award from the Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education in 2001 and the Distinguished Member Award in 2011. He received an honorary degree from the University of Manitoba in 2018. He has also won awards for his research from the Canadian Bureau on International Education and the Council on International Higher Education (Association for the Study of Higher Education) in the United States. He has held Visiting Professor appointments at the University of Hong Kong (2023), the University of the West Indies (Open Campus Barbados, 2015), Beijing Normal University (2014-2019), Fudan University (2007-2008) and he was an Erasmus Mundus Visiting Scholar at the University of Oslo in 2008. 

He is a former Chair of the Department of Theory & Policy Studies in Education (1998-2001), Associate Dean (2003-2011), Acting Dean (2009) and Dean (2015-2021) of the Â鶹´«Ã½¼¯ÍÅ of the University of Toronto. He has received several awards for his contributions to academic administration.  He is a former member of the Board of Governors of the University of Manitoba and the Governing Council of the University of Toronto.

Glen's research projects have been funded by a range of agencies and organizations, including the , the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities, the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation, and the . His contract research activities have included work for a number of governments, as well as the Law Society of Upper Canada, UNESCO, the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, the Bertelsmann Foundation, the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada, and the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations.  His current projects include a national study of Canadian university boards (led by Dominik Antonowicz) and the analysis of data from the Canadian component of the Academic Profession in the Knowledge-based Society (APIKS) project (supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada).

He has been a member of external review teams for a number of universities in Canada (including Brock, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nipissing, Saskatchewan and Western) and in other countries (including the University of Hong Kong and Johns Hopkins University). He has been a member of program advisory committees for a variety of organizations, including the College of Nurses of Ontario and the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission. He is currently a member of the (Alberta government) Minister's Advisory Committee on Higher Education and Skills.
