LOS ANGELES (Feb. 26, 2016) 鈥 The Nan Rae Gallery at will present聽practice, Practice, practice: Abstract Spirituality in Contemporary Los Angeles Painting, Sculpture and Performance, an exhibition curated by Doug Harvey, opening Saturday, March 13.

Harvey is a multi-disciplinary aficionado of the current collective cultural聽zeitgeist.聽Art, music, literature and the flotsam and jetsam of popular culture are all within his聽orbit to create art, write, curate exhibitions, or compose music.

This exhibition is a contemporary riff on the seminal Maurice Tuchman 鈥撀燾urated聽Spiritual in Art, Abstract Painting 1890-1985聽behemoth blockbuster聽exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1986. Spirituality in this聽exhibition is not about the 鈥渃anon of art鈥 functioning as spiritual inspiration聽(what the curator identifies as the 鈥淐hurch of Art鈥). Rather, the artist鈥檚 in this聽exhibition create art that is linked to existing religious systems and is directly聽related to their personal spiritual practice.
Participating artists include Dina Abdulkarim, Ryan Callis, Linda Day, June Edmonds, David McDonald, Khang Nguyen, Rebecca Niederlander, Kenneth Ober, Mary Anna Pomonis. Lorenzo Hurtado Segovia and Dani Tull.
