First Graduate of the Professional Writing Program Scores Gig with The New York Times

The ink was barely dry on Devin Hendricks鈥 bachelor of arts — the first granted by the Professional Writing聽program — before the recent grad secured a choice assignment as an occasional contributor to聽The New York Times.

Devin may be a newly-minted professional, but she鈥檚 been a decidedly active regular contributing writer to Flaunt and Study Break as an editorial intern. For Flaunt, she鈥檚 covered everything from a Jean-Michel Basquiat exhibition at The Broad and Stranger Things鈥 return to Netflix, to Kendall + Kylie鈥檚 Limited Edition Collection at Saks, and a Tommy Hilfiger auction benefiting Autism Speaks. The former program manager of , Woodbury鈥檚 student-run literary magazine, is now a public relations assistant for Hometech Construction & Design, an online resource for home improvement projects, and the author of Letting it Happen, a new chapbook.

鈥淚’ve spent my whole life working towards something,鈥 Devin says. 鈥淚 didn’t always know what it was, but I knew it was bigger than my current situation. And I knew that I could not stop, I had to keep pushing forward. But today I feel like I am exactly where I need to be.鈥

鈥淒evin has the soul of a writer — dedicated to the craft, innately curious, and eager to share her insights and enthusiasm in ways that move people,鈥 says Linda L. Dove, Ph.D., adjunct faculty member in the Professional Writing program which is part of the College of Liberal Arts.
